Swimming in the Pyrenees is exceptional. We are lucky enough to have a choice of 4 open water swim venues within 10 km of the centre. We favour one particular lake which is set aside for swimming and where we hold our mini triathlon and open water swim practice. The water is shallow and warm so everyone can feel confident in swimming either as a group or on their own.
We have full use of a 25m indoor pool which we tend to use at the beginning of the season and from July 1st through to September 1st we use the 50m outdoor pool which is a favorite for local triathletes as well as the Russian Tri Team who spend the majority of the summer in the Pyrenees training and racing.
We also have our Endless Pool at the centre which can be used for swim analysis using the underwater camera or just to get some extra swim training in.
If you choose a self guided holiday then we will always be on hand to take you to the local pools. The 50m pool is open from 10:00 and is normally only used by swimmers for training until about 11:30. It costs around 3 euros per session. Our Triathlon holiday packages will always include a couple of swims in both the lake (optional of course) and pool. The lake temperature is comfortable without wetsuits from June and the water is crystal clear.
Running in the Pyrenees is only seconded by the cycling. There is plenty of routes to choose from flat to the hideously steep.
We have various marked run routes starting from the centre. These are on a mixture of tarmac and trail and in all cases normal running trainers are fine.
There are also an abundance of fully marked up mountain bike trails that are ideal for the longer trail runs. These can be either on the flat or in the hills behind the centre which rise up to 980m (only 100m short of Snowdon in the UK).
There is a small cinder track available for track sessions if required which happens to be very close to one of the lakes that we can swim in.
We can also take you to the trail heads further into the valley which allows for the spectacular high mountain trails. We have route books available so you can enjoy these fantastic runs and take in the stunning views.
There are many Triathlons in the area through out the season and also some very unique races utilising the local terrain such as the Tourmalet Duathlon, the Fos Duathlon (taking in the col de Menté) and in the winter there are the some great races involving skiing, biking and running. Check out the Events Page for more information on all the races in the area.
We organise our own mini practice triathlons throughout the year to coincide with our training camps. We have also put on Olympic distance triathlons and can put on longer practice events if required. The courses are compact around the lake and fully marked so no one can get lost.
We set up the transitions and the aid stations so you can simulate your race exactly without having to worry about anything. It is fantastic fun.
