This is a bit of fun we have at our centre. The Col des Ares is a category 3 climb and is very close to us. It is a gentle 4% most of the way up the 6.7 km course so you can go as hard as you like as the way home afterwards is all down hill.
It started off when we arrived in the Pyrenees as a training measure to see how we were improving in the mountains. We then opened it up as a session in our Tri Camps and now we have had over 150 people take on this Mountain Time Trial.
For another bit of fun we put a “Top Gear” style leader board which sits in the dining room so everyone can see what they have to aim for. Recently the times have been very competitive. See the full results table below.
The start is marked with our own Wooden Plaque opposite the woodyard in La Moulette, the finish is on the summit at the green sign 6.7 km later. Over this distance, you climb 310 meters. The average percentage is thus 4.6 %.
So if you would like to give it a go then just let us know. We will set up the official timing (Ian’s watch) and get you on that leader board!
