This is our ultimate bike training camp combining 2 stages of the 2012 Tour de France with our Tri-Country Tour, a 3 day tour taking in France, Andorra and Spain. This multi-base camp will test your legs on some epic rides throughout the central Pyrenees. The camp is designed to provoke a little competition so we have added the King of the Mountains. Certain climbs each stage will be selected to gain the points for the ultimate climber.
We will transfer you from Toulouse airport back to our base in Luscan. After building your bikes and some lunch we will head out for short test ride to make sure everything is in working order, including the legs (31 km 215 m). On our return we will load the bikes onto the team minibus for the short transfer to the hotel near Pau. We will have our evening meal and brief everyone on what is on the agenda for the rest of the camp. Early to bed as it is a big day tomorrow!!
An early start for a very big day. 199 km and 4,702 m of climbing including the Col d' Aubisque, Col du Soulor, Col du Tourmalet, Col de Aspin and finally the Col de Peyresourde. Now this is where the Pro's will have finished 11 days earlier but if you want your bed then it is down the valley to Luscan where a very welcome meal is waiting for you.
The legs will be saying NO, but you know you cannot resist riding from France into Spain. This is the first of three stages that will take you through 3 separate countries. We will head back up to Luchon and over the Col du Portilon and into Spain. Then up to Veilha and over the Port de Bonaigua, another 2000m plus climb. But you can now rest the legs as you will descend all the way into Sort and the hotel. (135 Km 2,169 m)
Another big day today with the highest paved road in the Pyrenees on the agenda. First it is straight up the Col de Canto before dropping down into the valley and passing over the tightly controlled border of Andorra. Once in this busy little country you will start climbing..... and climbing...... and climbing the Port d'Envilira, the highest of all passes in the Pyrenees. But what goes up- the descent is amazing and the kilometers are soon eaten up for the arrival of the hotel in Tarascon. There is a very welcome river nearby to cool those legs down before we eat and then eat some more. (162 Km 2,792 m)
Back to base today but there are a few climbs to navigate first. Straight out the door is the Col de Port and the great twisting descent into the Massat valley. A spot of lunch in St Girons before heading up the valley to the Col de Portet d'Aspet. Careful on the descent as this is where the memorial to Fabio Casatelli lies. The Col du Buret and Col des Ares are the final hurdles before seeing the welcome signs of Pyrenees Multisport. Soak those legs in the pool before the evening meal as tomorrow is the second Tour de France stage of the week. (122 Km 1,898 m)
It was lucky that the organizers of this years Tour de France put in a short day as no doubt the legs will be complaining today. We will head out the door and start the climb of the Col de Menté, dropping down to the Col du Buret and Col des Ares which you did yesterday. But no turning right to home today, it is left and up the Hors Category of the Port de Balés, a fantastic rural ascent. The descent hits the Col de Perysourde and we climb partway up before taking a left to the mountain top finish of the ski station Peyragudes. But again, this is not the finish of the ride. After a cup of tea we will descend back down to Luscan and food. (159 Km 3,318 m)
The final day and the final climb of the week and the KoM competition. We will ride some rolling countryside before hitting the out and back climb of the ski station Nistos. It is a tough little climb but well worth it and there will be tea and biscuits at the top. A descent and roll back to base for the horrid job of bike packing. We will go out for the final meal and the presentations for The CAMP ULTIME. (84 Km 1,268 m)
After an early breakfast we will transfer you back to Toulouse for the morning flights. You will be leaving a lot fitter, physically and most definitely mentally than when you arrived. Well Done!!
The KoM competition will be based on selected climbs each day. To make it fare we will get everyone to download their Garmins to Strava which will show the competition segments for the day. This means that the riders do not have to be with each other to ride for points and the results will be read out each evening. Everyone will be added to the Camp Ultime club on Strava so the results can be tracked at a glance. If you do not have a Garmin then go to our Bike Rental page for details of how to rent one for the week. We can also set you up with a free Strava account.
